“A good April Fool story starts with something that might be possible, though irritating, then draws the reader into a web of increasing plausibility, building to a climax of absurdity that leaves the reader at a slow boil. The cardinal rule is that no one is hurt by the story, even if the reader never gets to the concluding ‘April Fool,’” wrote Jerry Durnbaugh in 1991. The founder and publisher of The Weekly Packet, Durnbaugh started the April Fool tradition in 1964. This book contains more than 80 April Fool stories published from 1964 through 2012 in the three Penobscot Bay Press newspapers. The stories are often wildly imaginative and always sufficiently convincing to hook you, over and over again.
